About Chamber Music Academy
Our Monday evening String Zone for senior string players of Grade 5 to 8+, has a new reincarnation with a new emphasis on chamber music. Here at GAM we recognise that chamber music skills are the most important part of a balanced instrumental education. Playing in small groups, holding individual lines of music and crucially playing without a conductor; encourages listening, accompanying and secure reading skills as well as increased musicality and expressive playing.
In the coming year, students will be divided into quartets and other chamber combinations as well as playing in violin, viola and cello ensembles with specialist tutors. Workshops from professional chamber musicians and regular performances including the Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts will be part of this new and exciting venture.
We are delighted that we have been able to effect this new approach without increasing cost for parents and of course our bursary fund is ready to help for those in need. We look forward to seeing you in our new Chamber Music Academy!
The educational benefits of chamber music
- An improvement in academic attainment across the curriculum (evidenced by countless studies)
- Improved sense of well-being and better mental health
- Teamwork - being a vital member of a team working together, chamber music is the ultimate team sport!
- Resilience – so vital for our young people
- Commitment –willingness to come to every rehearsal and work towards a goal is a great life skill.
