Stand By Me
Improving communication skills and confidence through music
Stand By Me
Stand By Me is a highly successful project, provided free of charge thanks to funding from the GSW Music Hub and the National Lottery, linking primary school children and residents of care homes together through music. Schools and care homes benefit hugely from singing together and getting to know each other.
This collaboration has proven benefits to everyone who takes part, improving communication skills and confidence, breaking down intergenerational barriers and reducing social isolation.
Experienced musician and community music project leader Becky Chevis works with each school and care home partnership separately and jointly, sharing songs and learning new repertoire together. Children visit the care home for joint sessions, becoming familiar with the setting of a care home and creating lasting relationships. Becky has a wealth of musical material that will become firm favourites with children and elderly care home residents alike.
A 10-week Stand By Me course is provided at no cost to either care home or primary school as the project is fully subsidised by the GSW Music Hub and National Lottery funding.
We have spaces for new partnerships between primary schools and care homes in 2024 and 2025. For more information please contact our Schools Administrator, Karin via karin@glosacadmusic.org
