The courses we offer for schools

GAM is a key partner in Make Music Gloucestershire, our local music hub.  We work with our partners, Gloucestershire Music, Cheltenham Festivals and The Music Works to deliver a music education strategy for the county.  Our school work is subsidised by the hub.

The county gamelan is housed with us and we have a team of specialist gamelan tutors offering workshops to schools.

As well as a peripatetic service, we offer Whole-Class Ensemble Tuition (WCET) as follows:

  • Whole-class strings, whole-class wind, whole-class brass for KS2 classes
  • Ready Steady Play - whole-class general musicianship for KS1 classes
  • Gamelan-inspired percussion for whole classes at KS2

All WCET courses are a minimum of 10 weeks long.  They are subsidised by Make Music Gloucestershire and cost £399 per term.

“Gloucestershire Academy of Music has greatly enhanced music provision in our school.”

Headteacher, Heron Primary School

Our teachers are highly motivated and skilled musicians with great communication skills.  They have all gone through a safer recruitment process to ensure that safeguarding and professional teaching standards are met.

Prior to 2020, GAM was supplying peripatetic teachers to over 20 Gloucestershire primary schools, teaching over 200 pupils between them.  Many additional schools have enjoyed taking part in our WCET and gamelan workshop programme.
