Full job description

Upper Strings Teacher

We are looking for an enthusiastic Upper Strings Teacher to lead groups and ensembles, and also take individual lessons.  This is an exciting opportunity for a well-qualified individual to join our creative and rapidly developing organisation.  You will be part of a friendly, dedicated team helping to enable music-making opportunities for hundreds of students each week.

We are also happy to consider applications from teachers of other instruments.

Gloucestershire Academy of Music (GAM) is a charitable organisation which contracts over 50 music leaders per year to work with upwards of 2,000 children, young people and adults. We are a partner in Make Music Gloucestershire, our local music education hub and have a base close to the docks in central Gloucester.

The main part of this role is to lead ensembles on Saturdays in Gloucester (Barbican House) and Cheltenham (Dean Close Prep School), and possibly also our Senior Strings on Monday evenings in Gloucester.  There is also scope for additional individual instrumental lessons.  The role will also include supporting music events and holiday courses through the year.

Employment is on a freelance basis at £32/hour and is open to job share.

Applicants will have:

  • A music degree or diploma, or relevant experience.
  • A teaching qualification on the instrument (preferred)
  • Experience of teaching beginner violinists through to grade 8 plus.
  • Experience of preparing students for ABRSM/Trinity examinations.

For more information about the role, please contact our Operations Director, Sue Bain, sue@glosacadmusic.org

Application:  Please email a letter of application together with a copy of your CV and the names of two referees to sue@glosacadmusic.org  We will only obtain references with your prior consent.

Closing date: Monday 9 January 2023, 5pm
Interviews: Friday 13 January 2023, in Barbican House, Gloucester

GAM is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.  Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Gloucestershire Academy of Music is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, gender, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.

No agencies please.
