Scutterbugs

Three children with brass instruments

Scutterbugs

A fun session for 3-4-year-old children developing self-expression through movement and song

Pre-school child learning percussion

Our classes use the acclaimed MusicLand curriculum, created by GAM founder Caroline Lumsden. Through imaginative ‘note characters’ who go on adventures in a magical, musical world, children learn to read and write music from an early age – often before they can read books! We also draw on the Kodály approach, using singing and hand signs to help children connect sound, symbol and pitch in an intuitive way.

All sessions are led by qualified professional musicians who love teaching young children. Families can follow clear pathways of progression should they wish, moving from Scutterbugs to Infant Singing and Rhythm or String Starters when their child is ready.

Scutterbugs children are also invited to take part in festive concerts and special performances, giving them wonderful shared experiences and a sense of achievement.

In just three sessions my daughter is recognising the music notes and the rhythms they make. She's already gained confidence clapping along to the rhythm cards and has been singing the Scutterbugs song all afternoon!
