About GAM Exams

Gloucestershire Academy of Music offers its own highly successful syllabus of instrumental and singing exams, which includes a Preliminary grade, in addition to the traditional grades 1-4.

GAM exams involve the assessment of three pieces, a 'Scales & Arpeggios' assessment, a 'Playing at Sight' assessment, and aural tests. Exams run three times a year, at the end of the Winter, Spring, and Summer terms. Teachers decide on entries with their students and submits the registrations to GAM.

As GAM exams are more informal, and a lower cost than national exam boards, they provide an excellent opportunity to gain confidence with taking exams prior to Grade 5.
