About GYCO Inspire

Gloucestershire Youth Chamber Orchestra (GYCO) Inspire gives talented students the opportunity to perform at the highest level, working with international artists from Cheltenham Music Festival under the baton of our Artistic Director, Glyn Oxley.

We're currently inviting applications to form an orchestra to participate in Cheltenham Music Festival in July 2024.

Students will perform on 10 and 11 July alongside professional musicians in the celebrated Music For Schools series performing to over 600 primary school children and students from Gloucestershire special schools.

Rehearsals will take place on 2, 7 and 9 July in Barbican House, Gloucester.

Students meet for intensive rehearsals and have access to a range of performance opportunities in significant venues across Gloucestershire.  There are opportunities to work with contemporary music and student compositions as well as standard orchestral repertoire.

Musicians must be of at least grade 8 standard as well as having excellent sight-reading skills.

Performances in recent seasons have included a lockdown recording of Beethoven's Egmont Overture; Gloucester Cathedral with Cheltenham Cathedral Youth Choir; a community opera performance at Cheltenham Music Festival and performances at the Three Choirs Festival and Water City Music Festival.
