The Big String

Children playing brass instruments

The Big String

Our next Big String will take place in February 2022.

Over 170 musicians!

Each year, with the support of Make Music Gloucestershire, GAM brings over 170 young string players together to rehearse and perform in Gloucester Cathedral.  From pre-grade 1 to post-grade 8, the players work intensively over a two-day period on specially chosen and arranged music.  This is a brilliant opportunity for experienced musicians to work alongside and inspire beginner musicians.  We also bring in prestigious guests such as Michael Bochmann and the Carducci Quartet to coach and perform with the children. Recent repertoire has included Jeff Moore's Winter Tales, Brandenburg Concerto by Bach, Jeff Moore's The Gypsy Violin, Holst St Paul's Suite and Bach Double Violin Concerto and Christmas Concerto by Corelli.
